Neurodivergent Affirming Therapy
Many people who come to see me are passionate about their interests, their loved ones, and deeply feel injustice in the world. They may be have achieved highly in school or at work, but have trouble remembering items on the grocery list or that the grocery list even existed in the first place. My clients tend to be the ones who see when a workplace is dysfunctional or when someone isn’t being authentic, often before other people see it.
If this feels like you, unfortunately you may struggle, at least at times, with feeling like too much. Or not enough. Or somehow both at the same time. You may have always been told you’re “too sensitive” or have felt like the odd one out at times. You might have talents that others do not but struggle with mundane daily tasks.
You may be diagnosed or questioning if you could be an ADHDer, autistic, or another neurodivergent identity. The good news is that you don’t need a formal diagnosis or be interested in getting one to get support. And self recognition is always valid in my practice.
Neurodivergent (ND) Affirming Therapy is about finding ways to live that best suit your mind, body and authentic self. It’s about learning what your needs really are, examining how you experience the world (which may be more different from others than you realized), and processing past experiences through a new lens.
In my office, long stories that takes twists and turns are valued, you don’t have to make consistent eye contact in sessions unless you want to, and I’d love to hear about your deep interests and hobbies. Being a neurodivergent person myself, I love to deep dive into topics, I know that lamps are better than overhead lights, and I appreciate a good fidget.
